Introducing the bad guy...Rene Belloq, played by British actor Paul Freeman.
Raiders was a springboard for Freeman in Hollywood and he continued playing villains both in Hollywood, and in his native Britain using his uncanny talent for foreign accents, which is evident in his portrayal of the South African born French archaeologist in this film.
